Singapore to Become a Model of Urban Development

I’m not much of a fan of the heat so with my recent transfer to Singapore for work left me more than unhappy. The notion of central air is still something of a foreign concept here in Singapore despite the economic growth and modernization of much of their infrastructure. Still, it’s not all bad here and finding aircon servicing that works was easier than I expected it to be. I’ve got to admit to possessing some amount of American arrogance and ignorance; I wholly expected Singapore to be far beneath American standards. Thankfully this has not been the case!

The lack of central air might be something of an annoyance, I have found everything else to be close to great. With such a diverse population making their homes here as they seek out work, Singapore has risen as an economic powerhouse. With more economic freedoms than any other country in the world, it’s here where people with the money and dreams can make those hopes come to life. When our employer first chose Singapore as our new base of operations I thought she was completely out of her mind. Now I see her plan. With such a valuable pool of employees to pick from she has helped us reach new heights.

Singapore is a beautiful country, too. The architecture here is unique and incorporates both a modern feel combined with a respect and love for the natural world. Much of the architecture here incorporates ‘green’ themes heavily and there are times that I feel as if I am walking through a city from the future. This is how I see urban development – Singapore is no doubt going to become the model of urban development for much of the world. I can only say that this is a good thing!
